A psychologist turned hotelier who found the characters for his novels among his guests.
Mario Farber spent his childhood in Buenos Aires convinced he would become a writer. As a young man, he earned a degree in psychology, with a focus on marketing and consumer behavior. Although he wrote two books based on that professional experience, he was waiting for the right opportunity to tackle the novel as a form.
After twenty years in the field, he decided to move to the United States. He bought a twenty-room hotel in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. For the next two decades he worked the front desk, helping guests navigate everything from lost room keys to full-blown personal crises.
For twenty-seven years I have observed the world from a small hotel by the sea in Fort Lauderdale. Guests from every corner of the globe have passed through its rooms. Listening to their stories, watching their conflicts, and living alongside them turned this hotel into my true window onto the world.
This beachside hotel is the real setting of his novel Mahoma en Florida and the final backdrop of his memoir Cuando dejé la izquierda — both manuscripts completed and ready for publication.
